China’s National Press and Publication Administration has granted approval to Goddess of Victory: New Hope, the local version of the popular role-playing shooter Goddess of Victory: Nikke, developed by South Korean studio Shift Up and distributed internationally by Tencent. This title is part of a recent list of approved game licenses, which includes 113 locally developed games and 15 imported titles.
The international version of Goddess of Victory: Nikke, published by Tencent’s video game division Level Infinite, has been a global success since its launch in November 2022. The arrival of Goddess of Victory: New Hope in the Chinese market represents a milestone, as it is one of the few foreign game approvals in the country. This title will be published locally through a collaboration between Tencent and Migu Quick Games, the gaming platform of China Mobile, the leading telecommunications company in the country.
The Chinese regulator has maintained a steady pace of approvals of more than 100 domestic games per month during the year, while approvals of foreign titles remain lower and occur approximately every two months. This year has seen an increase in the pace of approvals, in line with the government’s efforts to revitalize the industry following the 2021 restriction period.
