Prepare for a fiery journey to the heart of Natlan, as Genshin Impact Version 5.5, titled “Day of the Flame’s Return,” is scheduled to arrive on March 26th. HoYoverse has unveiled the details of this highly anticipated update that will immerse players in a new volcanic region, introduce brand-new playable characters, and expand the world of Teyvat.
In this new version, Travelers will venture into the harsh lands of southwestern Natlan, where the imposing Great Volcano of Tollan awaits. This volcano is not only an unexplored territory but also the home of the Collective of Plenty, a unique tribe that reveres physical fitness and friendly competitions. Deep within the volcano lies the enigmatic Sacred City, an ancient settlement with ancestral secrets that players must unravel.
New Playable Characters: Varesa and Iansan
Version 5.5 of Genshin Impact introduces two new playable characters who will join the growing roster of heroes: Varesa and Iansan.
Varesa, a five-star character wielding an Electro Catalyst, stands out for her agile and aggressive combat style. Her unique ability lies in activating the “Fiery Passion” state through Plunging Attacks. In this state, Varesa significantly increases her Electro DMG and can unleash a special Elemental Burst with reduced Energy cost. Her gameplay focuses on the rapid execution of Plunging Attacks, combining her Elemental Skill with Normal Attacks. Additionally, her unique talent offers extra utility by restoring Phlogiston after the party consumes food, a resource that could be relevant in exploring Natlan.
On the other hand, Iansan, a four-star character using an Electro Polearm, is presented as a valuable support character. Known as Varesa’s coach and one of the six heroes of Natlan, Iansan offers ATK buffs to the on-field character and healing for the team. Her Elemental Burst increases the ATK of the active character, even if Iansan is off-field, and this buff scales with the distance moved by the team. Furthermore, when triggering a Nightsoul Burst, Iansan gains the “Warming Up” effect, which continuously restores HP to the on-field character for a short duration.
Varesa and Iansan will debut in the event wishes of the first phase of Version 5.5, accompanying the rerun of Xianyun. In the second half of the version, players will have the opportunity to wish again for Xilonen and Venti.
The Tatankasaurus: A New Saurian for Exploration and Combat
One of the most striking novelties of Version 5.5 is the introduction of the Tatankasaurus, a new type of Saurian that will enrich both exploration and combat in Natlan. Players will have the ability to transform into a Tatankasaurus during certain situations, becoming this creature to overcome obstacles and explore the volcanic environment. The Tatankasaurus possesses the ability to smash through Pulverite, a rocky material that could block paths or resources, and can also briefly dash across water or liquid Phlogiston, opening new routes and movement possibilities.
Events and Challenges in Version 5.5
Update 5.5 will bring renewed events and challenges. Natlan’s traditional Bloomflower Trials will return, an event in which players, alongside characters like Mavuika and Ifa, must save a sick Saurian. The “Saurian Treasure Seeker” mini-game will offer a more relaxed experience, where you can help baby Saurians collect treasures. By participating in these events, players will have the opportunity to invite Ororon to their team for free.
Regarding combat challenges, Version 5.5 introduces a new world boss: the Lava Dragon Statue. This imposing enemy awaits in the geothermal fissures of the volcano, testing the skill and strategy of players.
Artifact System Optimization
HoYoverse has listened to the community and implemented an improvement to the artifact upgrade system. With Version 5.5, when strengthening artifacts using Sanctifying Elixirs, at least two upgrades to the defined Minor Affixes will be guaranteed. This optimization will facilitate artifact enhancement and customization, allowing players to optimize their builds more efficiently.
